About this spot
Cabo Pulmo is one of the oldest coral reef systems in the eastern Pacific, and decades of strict protection have produced fish biomass densities rare anywhere in the Gulf of California. Dives run 8 to 20 metres over hard coral structures, with 15-metre visibility typical and mild currents that make navigation manageable for intermediate divers. Water temperatures range from 22°C in cooler months to 29°C at the summer peak. The site rewards patience. Green sea turtles move through regularly, often resting on the reef or cruising the mid-water column. Great barracuda hang in loose aggregations near the shallower structures, while blacktip reef sharks patrol the edges of the reef, particularly at depth. June through November is the recommended window, when warmer water coincides with peak marine activity and the best overall conditions in the park. A 3mm wetsuit suits most of the season, with a 5mm more comfortable toward the cooler end of that range.
