  • If you can keep your horse sound they get smarter and wiser each year. The less athletic ones get weeded out and the ones that are enthusiastic competitors stay at the top. My old fox hunter had his last hunt at 28 when he was jumping a foot higher than necessary for the young man riding him.   • This rings so true. I have an 15 year old horse who loves to jump. She is not hot per se but she does drive a lot on the fences. Right now she is teaching me how to jump. She is clearly bored by my small jumps, but she still makes sure to get me with her over no matter how badly I mess it up on the way there.
