About this spot

Glenlyon offers diving opportunities throughout the year in the United States. While specific depth, visibility, and water temperature data aren't publicly documented, the spot has built a following among local divers who regularly document their visits. The site sits outside any marine protected area, meaning access is straightforward without additional permit requirements. With three community videos available, you can research conditions and techniques from divers who've recently explored the location. The year-round accessibility makes Glenlyon a reliable choice for regular dive trips, though you'll want to connect with local dive operators or the community to get current conditions and what to expect on any given visit. The lack of coral bleaching concerns and open water status means fewer environmental restrictions. Start by reviewing the available community footage to gauge what appeals to you, then plan your trip based on your own schedule and experience level.

Underwater Shipwreck Photogrammetry on the Sidewheeler Detroit

  • I'm fascinated by early steam ships, both screw, paddle and sail assisted, with their 'try it and see if it works' approach to design; to see a film like this, of a more-or-less intact sidewheeler turned into a 3D model is a great experience. She was a lovely ship when working; good to see how well she's preserved.
