About this spot

Richelieu Rock stands as one of Thailand's most celebrated dive destinations. Located in the Andaman Sea, this submerged pinnacle attracts divers seeking challenging conditions and rich biodiversity. The site is accessible year-round, making it a consistent option for dive operators in the region. The rock formation creates a dynamic diving environment shaped by strong water movement. This current-driven ecosystem supports diverse species attracted to the nutrient-rich flow. Divers can expect encounters with larger pelagic species and reef-associated fish, making each descent unpredictable and engaging. Coral health monitoring indicates alert-level bleaching stress at the site, consistent with broader Andaman Sea conditions. Despite this, the site maintains ecological value and active community engagement. Twelve species observations have been documented by divers, and community contributions include video records that document current conditions and marine encounters. Richelieu Rock remains unprotected by marine protected area designation, meaning access is open to operators and independent divers. The site's popularity stems from its reputation for dramatic marine encounters and the technical challenge posed by surge and current.

  • Ive done 200+ dives so far in bali, madlives, egypt and the Philippines and this is probably my favourite dive. I will do it as a day trip next time though.

  • Richelieu Rock never gets old. I was just there recently on the New Fah Sai and getting surrounded by those massive walls of bigeye snappers in the canyon was unreal. You captured those purple soft corals perfectly!
