About this spot
Fuvahmulah's Tiger Zoo sits in the deep south of the Maldives, far from the main atolls, and earns its name from one of the densest concentrations of tiger sharks found anywhere in the Indian Ocean. Unlike most sites where a tiger sighting is a bonus, here multiple individuals regularly patrol the cleaning station between 12 and 25 metres, often in the company of scalloped hammerheads. Whale sharks appear year-round as well, drawn by the nutrient-rich upwellings that define this isolated oceanic island. Visibility averages 30 metres and water temperature stays between 27 and 30°C regardless of season, making any month a viable window. Moderate currents are typical, but conditions can shift quickly given Fuvahmulah's exposed position, so divers need solid buoyancy control and experience reading open-water movement. This is firmly advanced territory — not because the depth is extreme, but because the environment demands composure around large predators and the ability to hold position without disturbing the sharks' natural behaviour at the cleaning station.
