About this spot

T Street Beach sits at San Clemente Pier in Orange County, California, and offers one of SoCal's most accessible right-hand point breaks. The spot works best on south and southwest swells, with the pier serving as a natural break in the lineup. Waves peel along the beach and structure, making it a magnet for local surfers and travelers looking for consistent, mellow rides. This is a year-round destination. Winter brings the biggest swells, but T Street maintains rideable conditions across all seasons. The break suits beginners through intermediates on smaller days and offers more challenge when swell picks up. Low tide exposes rocks and the pier pilings, so timing your paddle-out matters. High tide smooths things out and pushes the peak further north. The beach fills up fast on good days—arrive early to secure position. Parking is available near the pier, and the town of San Clemente has plenty of cafes, restaurants, and shops within walking distance. The vibe is friendly and local-heavy, but visitors are welcome. No special permits are required to surf here. The pier itself is public access, making it a scenic spot even on flat days.

Preguntas frecuentes

When is the best time to surf T Street?

T Street is rideable year-round. Winter (November–March) brings the most consistent swell and bigger waves. Summer can be smaller and mushier, but workable on south swells.

What's the difficulty level?

On smaller days, the right-hander is beginner-friendly. Bigger swells and faster sections suit intermediate surfers. The pier and rocks require respect and local knowledge.

Are there marine hazards?

The pier pilings and rocks near the break are the main concerns. Respect the structure, know the tide, and stay aware of where you're surfing relative to the pier.

Do I need permits or can I just show up?

No special permits needed. T Street Beach is public. Park near the pier, walk down, and paddle out. The area is busy on weekends, so early morning is ideal.

  • I grew up visiting San Clemente twice a year, learned to surf there and I absolutely fell in love with the town. My Grandparents owned a house a couple blocks up from the ocean, half the neighbors were professional surfers or worked for quicksilver/hurley/ etc. My whole life I told them that house will be mine one day. Then my grandpa died and my grandma for some terrible reason sold the house an

  • Had a friend that passed away recently that lived 2 houses up from the stairs. Spent a lot of my youth taking the 91 bus to SC as a kid from Mission Viejo. Then got a job in SC and would surf almost everyday after work. Probably the only town in OC I would move back for.
