About this spot

Avalon Dive Park sits in the Casino Point State Marine Conservation Conservation Area near Catalina Island, California. The site centers on the Catalina Flyer, a historic ship wreck that draws divers of varying skill levels. The park's protected status means the marine ecosystem stays healthy—coral shows no bleaching stress and the site supports robust fish and invertebrate populations. You'll encounter 12 documented species throughout the year, making each dive rewarding regardless of season. Community divers have shared 3 videos documenting conditions and wildlife, so you can preview what to expect before you go. The park's designation as a state marine conservation area means strict protection rules apply—no collecting, spearfishing, or extraction of any kind. This protection keeps the wreck and reef pristine. Avalon remains accessible year-round, so plan your trip when it works for you. The site is popular with both beginners learning wreck basics and experienced divers exploring the deeper sections. The Catalina Flyer itself offers natural swim-throughs and artifact viewing opportunities. Nearby mooring buoys prevent anchor damage to the reef and wreck. The park combines historical interest with solid marine habitat, making it one of Southern California's signature shore dives.

  • Im 27 and bedbound and weak due to battling cancer. I was in school for horticulture and ecology and had to drop out and sacrifice a lot of cool trips. I have been so depressed and haven't been able to see a future beyond this illness, but watching your video really helped me feel a sense of wonder again and feel hopeful for when I can travel again and see places like Catalina. Thank you for shari
