About this spot
Fotteyo Kandu is a serious drift dive for experienced divers only. Located in Vaavu Atoll, this kandu (channel) cuts between reef walls and funnels currents that pull you through 8 to 40 meters of water. The channel's geography creates strong flows—perfect for encountering sharks, tuna, and other large pelagics that hunt in these channels. Divers need solid buoyancy control and current awareness to stay safe and in position. The dive works best as a drift. You'll enter the channel at the right point in the tidal cycle and let the current carry you through, watching the walls and blue water for action. The narrow passage concentrates marine traffic, making encounters frequent when conditions align. Plan your entry and exit carefully with your guide. This is not a spot for training or casual diving. You must be comfortable managing strong currents, reading the water, and responding quickly to changing conditions. Three community videos exist of this site; check them to understand current patterns and hazards before booking. Bring experience, solid gear, and a guide who knows Fotteyo's moods.

Preguntas frecuentes
›When is the best time to dive Fotteyo Kandu?
Fotteyo works year-round, but current strength and direction vary by tide. Check with local operators about the month you're planning—they'll know which tides favor safe passages and strong life activity.
›What depth and difficulty level?
Expect 8 to 40 meters. This is an advanced dive. You need deep experience, solid buoyancy, and comfort in currents. Beginners and intermediate divers should not dive this kandu.
›What marine life will I see?
Pelagics are the draw: sharks, tuna, jacks, and barracuda hunt the channel. The fast current brings food and attracts large animals. Reef fish and smaller species also live on the walls.
›Do I need permits or special access?
Fotteyo Kandu is open to dive operators in Vaavu. No MPA (marine protected area) restrictions apply here. Book through a licensed Maldivian operator; they handle all logistics and safety briefings.
