About this spot

Playground sits in the Boa Batusangkok estuary area of West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, making it an accessible year-round surf spot. The break offers consistent conditions throughout the year, attracting both visiting surfers and local riders. Being outside a marine protected area means fewer restrictions on access, though you'll want to respect local customs and land rules. The spot has built solid community engagement, with several local videos documenting sessions and conditions. This grassroots documentation is helpful for checking current swell and crowd levels before you paddle out. The area around West Nusa Tenggara offers typical Indonesian infrastructure—guesthouses, warungs, and basic services in nearby towns. Water conditions and specific wave characteristics aren't heavily documented in public sources, so linking up with locals or checking recent video uploads will give you the most accurate read on tide tables, wind patterns, and what kind of board to pack. The year-round availability means you can plan a trip based on your schedule rather than chasing a seasonal window. Playground remains relatively under-the-radar compared to Bali's famous breaks, which can mean smaller crowds and a more authentic local experience. If you're combining it with other West Nusa Tenggara spots, it works well as part of a longer Indonesia trip.

  • Where is that biggest waves ever in life❤

  • I’m heading back to the Mentawais in three weeks. It’ll be trip number 21, and also a serious 70th birthday. Getting waves in my 6th decade was becoming a little more stressful, so these last few years the February and November are my go to times. It doesn’t matter whether you’re old or young, honestly just try and visit this magical place before it inevitably changes. I’m a boat trip guy, but Kal
