About this spot

Les Canons sits within the core zone of Parc national des Calanques, one of France's most carefully managed marine protected areas. This designation means the site is actively monitored for conservation, and divers must respect local regulations. The spot draws experienced divers interested in the geological and biological richness of the Mediterranean coast near Marseille. The site connects to the broader ecosystem of the Calanques, a dramatic landscape where limestone cliffs meet the sea. Underwater, the terrain reflects this geology, with formations and features shaped by thousands of years of erosion. Local dive operations in the region can brief you on current conditions and access points. Community documentation includes video records and species observations logged by visiting divers, giving you a sense of what marine life you may encounter. The year-round accessibility means you can plan a trip almost any time, though seasonal variations in visibility and water conditions will affect your experience. Before diving, confirm all current regulations with local authorities and dive operators, as MPA rules can change. The protection status reflects the ecological importance of these waters.

  • In 1983, without the benefit of modern equipment and with no fanfare, my cousin dived to the bottom of a 132 metres lake, 6 metres deeper than this record. We're still waiting for him to come back up.

  • Faire la fête à l’ancienne, comme nos parents et nos grands parents, comme les banquets familiaux d’antan. Ça me rappel les repas de communion, de baptêmes, et mariage tout ce qu’on ne fait plus bonne initiative. C’est ça la France.
