About this spot

Ras Malah sits within Egypt's Abu Galum Marine Protected Area, a designation that reflects the site's ecological value and commitment to reef conservation. The spot draws divers year-round, suggesting stable conditions across seasons. Coral health indicators show no bleaching stress, a positive sign for vibrant reef ecosystems at this location. The protected status means dive operations must follow local regulations and permit requirements. This framework helps maintain the quality that keeps divers returning. Community engagement is evident through multiple dive videos, indicating active interest and consistent visitation. While specific depth and difficulty data aren't documented here, the protected area designation and no-stress coral status suggest a managed dive environment worth exploring. Visibility and water temperature vary seasonally in Egypt's Red Sea region, so checking current conditions before booking is wise. The three community videos available offer real-world insight into what to expect underwater. Divers planning a trip should verify all permit requirements and check with local operators about seasonal logistics and site conditions.

  • To anyone wondering, that wheezing sound is just his regulator squeaking. They do that sometimes. He wasn't struggling or panicking or wheezing until he looked at his gauge and saw how deep he was. When you're in deep water like that, you can't tell how fast you're sinking at all. It can feel like you're sitting still, but you could be plummeting. Always keep track of your depth.

  • The moment the camera shifts from Yuri’s struggle to suddenly being on the surface is one of the eeriest things I have ever seen.

  • Underwater photographer here. The cap Yuri puts on his camera is a colour filter that helps offset the intense blue of underwater shots. The warmth of his filter is usually only for very deep filming - suggesting he always intended to go deep.

  • Thank you It was a pleasure to watch in slow motion on dry land compared to bubbling around this wreck which I did in 1993 while being lucky enough to be on a live aboard boat
