The Brothers Islands sit roughly 60 kilometres offshore in the Egyptian Red Sea, and that isolation is precisely what makes them exceptional. Strong, unpredictable currents sweep the two small seamounts year-round, funnelling nutrient-rich water that draws pelagic predators in numbers rarely matched elsewhere in the region. Scalloped hammerheads are the headline act, often schooling in open water off the walls, while tiger sharks patrol the deeper sections and blacktip reef sharks work the shallower ledges. This is expert-only diving—current management and solid buoyancy at depth are non-negotiable. Dives run between 20 and 40 metres along steep walls that drop into blue water, and visibility regularly reaches 35 metres, giving you time to spot incoming sharks before they're on top of you. Water temperature ranges from 22 to 28°C depending on season. The site is accessible from March through October, with the warmer summer months tending to concentrate the biggest hammerhead aggregations. Liveaboard is the only practical way to reach the Brothers, and most operators require proof of advanced experience before allowing divers in the water.
