Alor — The Edge

Alor's Edge runs along a steep wall that drops from 5 m to 30 m, giving intermediate divers a wide depth range to work with depending on current and what they're hunting. Moderate current is the norm here, which keeps the water clear — visibility averages 25 m — and pushes nutrients along the wall that attract larger pelagics. Water temperature holds between 25 and 29 °C across the long season, which runs April through November. The wall reliably produces great barracuda and blacktip reef sharks patrolling the blue water off the edge, while the structure itself rewards slower, closer inspection. Honeycomb morays tuck into crevices throughout the reef, and common octopus are frequently found in shallower sections, often well-camouflaged against encrusted rock. The combination of open-water action and reef hunting makes a single dive here feel genuinely varied. Divers comfortable managing drift and reading current direction will get the most out of the site — fighting the flow to stay on the wall is counterproductive when the current is running hard.
