The spot has deep roots in Hawaii's surf culture, with a strong local community and consistent swell exposure. Winter months typically bring the largest and most powerful waves, while summer offers smaller, cleaner conditions for all skill levels. The river mouth setup creates varied peak options depending on swell direction and tide, making it a versatile destination for both learning and advanced surfing. Access is straightforward, with no special permits required. The area's community-oriented vibe means you'll find plenty of local knowledge and established spots nearby. Visibility and water conditions vary seasonally, with winter bringing cooler temps and stronger currents. The spot's location keeps it away from marine protected areas, though respect for local customs remains essential.

  • I went to Kailua High School in the early 70's. 2'nd board I ever owned was a 7'6" Brewer from Country Surfboards in Haleiwa. Sammy Hawk was in the shop. He also rode Brewers.. Took me a long time to save up for it.
