About this spot

The Reef sits on Indonesia's coastline as a dependable year-round surf destination. The break offers consistent swell patterns that keep waves coming in throughout the seasons, making it a reliable choice for planning trips without seasonal constraints. The spot works in various swell directions and wind patterns, adapting to tropical weather shifts while maintaining rideable conditions most days. Access to The Reef is straightforward, with no marine protection area restrictions limiting your sessions. The area remains open year-round, so booking and logistics don't get complicated by seasonal closures or permit requirements. Local community activity around the break is solid—video content from surfers shows the wave in different conditions, giving you a clear picture before you paddle out. The break supports a small but engaged community of surfers who document sessions regularly. Four species observations have been recorded in the area, indicating a healthy coastal environment. Whether you're scouting your next trip or planning an extended stay, The Reef's lack of seasonal windows and accessible approach make it a practical choice for consistent wave time in Indonesia.

Preguntas frecuentes

Can I surf The Reef year-round?

Yes. The Reef works throughout the year with no seasonal closures. Tropical weather patterns keep swell moving in across most seasons, though swell size and consistency may vary month to month.

What should I know about difficulty and wave conditions?

Specific difficulty ratings aren't documented, but community video evidence shows rideable waves across multiple sessions. Check recent footage from local surfers to gauge conditions before your visit.

Are there marine life concerns at The Reef?

Four species observations have been recorded in the area. The break sits outside a marine protection area, so standard ocean awareness applies—respect local wildlife and follow Leave No Trace practices.

Do I need permits or special access to surf here?

The Reef is not inside a marine protected area, so no special permits are required. Access is open to the public. Always check locally for current conditions and any temporary closures before heading out.

  • In 2009, my then 12 year old and I spent 19 days camped out on the beach at Super Suck. In my 43 years of surfing, the 8 second barrel I got there still ranks as the best ride of my life.
