About this spot

Ko Wai is a small island dive destination in Thailand with coral reefs suitable for divers of various levels. The site attracts visitors throughout the year, though conditions vary seasonally. Local species observations document seven distinct marine animals, giving divers a sense of what to expect underwater. The island sits outside a marine protected area, meaning fewer restrictions but also less formal conservation oversight. Community-contributed videos provide firsthand looks at the reef environment and fish behavior. Visibility and depth vary with conditions and specific dive sites around the island. Water temperature remains warm year-round, typical for Thailand's tropical waters. Ko Wai's reefs are currently under coral health watch, a reminder to choose responsible operators and avoid touching or damaging living corals. The snorkeling and diving conditions make it accessible for both beginners and intermediate divers, though you should confirm exact site conditions and your own skill level before entering the water. Facilities and dive operator availability should be verified locally before your trip.

  • Achilles feet of diving in Thailand: dive sites are usually far away (1h+ boat trips in often rough seas) and huge crowds once you get there (there are not so many sites so everyone end up going to the same ones).
